Ice Fishing
Ice Fishing is a casual game for passionate anglers. Whether it's winter or summer, you'll find yourself on the snowy ice, surrounded by stunning winter landscapes with very real first-person graphics. Armed with an auger, fishing rod, bait, and a fish-filled lake, it's a dream come true for any fishing enthusiast. Test your skills, from catching big perch to reeling in massive pike. With various fish species and modes for all levels, you'll immerse yourself in the real world of ice fishing from the comfort of your home.
How to Play Ice Fishing
You'll start off in front of a perfectly drilled hole and a fishing hook dangling just above, ready for you to add bait and wait for the catch of the day. Your rod has a hand-cranked reel, and you can reel in or out using the reel icons on the side. Arrows indicate up or down.
Move your rod up and down to attract fish best, or you are likely to have your bait eaten and will have to replace it. Once your bait attracts fish, you will get a signal and need to reel up. If you pull too much, you may break the string. There is a barometer indicating what too much is, so be sure not to exceed your pull into red territory.
Your catch will remain on the ice as you continue fishing. Keep going in the spot you're in and if you run out of luck, move on to explore new territory.
In the game, you need to catch fish on the ice. To catch a fish, you need to perform the following actions:
- Put bait on the hook
- Lower the hook into the water to the required depth by unwinding the reel with the fishing line on the rod.
- Choose the appropriate depth for the hook with bait, as different fish species live at different depths.
- Tease the fish by raising and lowering the rod.
- When you see the rod tip move, the fish has taken the bait - strike quickly by sharply lifting the rod.
- Start reeling in the fish, winding the line onto the reel, and monitoring its tension.
- If you reel too fast or too slow, the fish may come off the hook
- Get the fish out of the water
- Stand up and find a new spot for fishing
- Drill a new hole and start fishing again
- Participate in tournaments with other anglers
Bait Available In Ice Fishing
There are various types of bait you can use, but you need points to be able to access them all. Various baits attract different types of fish. Baits include:
- Larvae
- Bloodworm
- Shrimp
- Corn
- Boilies
- Barley
- Whitebait
- Shrimp green
- Spoon lure
- Sweet barley
- Blue boilers
Fish You Can Catch in Ice Fishing
The fish you can catch is directly associated with the type of bait you use. You can never catch a Brown Trout, worth $520, with bloodworms, but you can catch a Ruff, worth $10, with bloodworms. The only way to access more bait is to fish as much as you can to get upgrades with your earnings from the shop.
Some fish are worth more; here is the bait that can catch them. This is not an exhaustive list, but it will give you an idea of the variety available in this game.
- Carp: $80 Bait: Bloodworms, larvae and corn
- Ruff: $10 Bait: Shrimp, bloodworms
- Roach: $20 Bait: Bloodworms, larvae

Other items you can buy with your earnings include rods and drills. The stronger the rod, the bigger the fish you can reel in. The same goes for the drill. You can't expect to fish a 172-pound Cobia that lives at depths of 1640 feet with the basic equipment and bait you start the game with.
Note that you can also change fishing spots and locations, which gives you more variety in the type of fish you can catch, so definitely explore these options.
